A much-anticipated tennis clash unfolded at Hilton Head High School, as the George Mason women’s tennis team finally stepped onto the court for their first match of their four-match Spring Break journey. Delays due to adverse weather conditions pushed the Patriots' initial game back, setting the stage for today's encounter with SIUE. The Cougars demonstrated strong teamwork and strategic play by securing all three doubles matches, claiming the crucial first point of the day.

The singles matches showcased intense competition between both teams. Despite the Patriots’ efforts, SIUE managed to secure victories across all six singles points, culminating in a 7-0 triumph. Notably, two matches extended into third-set tiebreakers, highlighting the fierce rivalry on the court. Amelia Gorman of the Cougars narrowly edged out George Mason's Cannan Liu in a thrilling contest, while Stefaniya Anikina reversed Lauren Splett's early lead to clinch another pivotal victory.

Though the loss brings George Mason's record to 3-5, the team remains focused on honing their skills and building momentum through upcoming fixtures. With two matches scheduled for Friday—one against Berry College in the morning and another versus West Virginia State later in the evening—the Patriots aim to channel this experience into improved performances. Their resilience and determination underscore the essence of sportsmanship and continuous growth in collegiate athletics.
