Two exciting fishing events are set to take place this April, offering young enthusiasts a chance to experience the joys of angling in the scenic Cherokee National Forest. Organized collaboratively by the USDA Forest Service and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, these "Kids Fishing Day" activities aim to inspire a new generation of anglers while fostering a love for nature.
The initial event will occur at McCamy Lake within the Chilhowee Recreation Area on April 19th, running from early morning until noon. Participants can reach the venue by following National Forest System Road 77, also known as the Ocoee Scenic Byway, which leads seven miles up Chilhowee Mountain. The second gathering is scheduled for April 26th at Spring Creek, accessible via National Forest System Road 27, located just north of the Hiwassee River. Refreshments will be available for all attendees, ensuring an enjoyable day filled with fun and camaraderie.
Fishermen aged fifteen and under will have the unique opportunity to catch stocked trout during these special occasions. Parents or guardians must accompany each child, and state licenses are mandatory for participation. Supported by sponsors like Trout Unlimited and Tennessee State Parks, these initiatives highlight the importance of outdoor recreation in promoting health, education, and community spirit. Through such programs, countless families and individuals find meaningful connections with the natural world, enriching their lives in countless ways.
