In the heart of spring, the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) is set to host its annual Experience Ireland event on March 15-16, 2025. This vibrant two-day festival will offer visitors an immersive journey into Irish culture through music, dance, and storytelling. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., guests can engage in a variety of interactive activities that highlight the rich heritage of Ireland. The event promises to be a delightful prelude to St. Patrick's Day celebrations, featuring renowned artists and musicians who will bring Celtic traditions to life.
During this enchanting weekend, the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix will transform into a celebration of all things Irish. Attendees can look forward to live performances by celebrated musicians like Scott Jeffers and the North American Celtic band Devil’s Brigade, as well as mesmerizing dances from the Bracken School of Irish Dance. A special highlight will be the Irish step dancing workshop, where participants can learn traditional moves under expert guidance.
MIM will also showcase the country's musical legacy with instrument demonstrations and workshops. Visitors can try their hand at playing the concertina and harp, join a family-friendly Irish music session, and delve into the history of the rare sultana instrument, guided by curator Matthew Zeller. Complementing these activities are storytelling sessions accompanied by live harp music, youth-led tours focusing on global harps, and creative stations where guests can craft miniature Irish harps. Additional entertainment includes a themed photo booth for memorable snapshots.
The event is included with museum admission, free for members, and supported by local cultural organizations such as the Gilbert Town Fiddlers, Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
From a journalist’s perspective, this event not only celebrates Irish culture but also fosters cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. It provides a unique opportunity for people to connect with traditions from around the world, enriching their own cultural literacy. By bringing together diverse communities, MIM’s Experience Ireland serves as a reminder of the power of music and art to bridge gaps and build bridges between different cultures.
